About the Course

Updated for Summer 2014!

Web Mapping and GIS Services is a online-only course being offered at Rowan University through the Department of Geography and Environment. The course is an eight-week course running from July 1st to August 25th, 2014. The topics covered include client-side APIs in both JavaScript and Flex, server-side technologies such as ArcGIS for Server and Geoserver, and cloud computing using Amazon Web Services.

Continuing Education Credits

This course is eligible for GISP Education (Course & Conference) points. As the course is accelerated and the student is expected to devote 6 hours per week to the eight-week course, Web Mapping and GIS Services is worth 3.6 Education Points.

AWS Stipend

Students enrolled in the course will receive a stipend to cover their AWS usage fees, allowing them to explore the celebrated cloud computing and hosting platform for their own web mapping applications. This stipend is being provided through an AWS for Education grant award.

If you have not previously enrolled for classes at Rowan, please visit the CGCE web page and follow the instructions under Visiting Student registration to register for this course. You will need to complete a CGCE Activation & Registration form [PDF].

The 2014 Course Registration Number (CRN) is 30501. If you are already a Rowan University student, you can use that number to directly add the course in Rowan Self-Service.

The cost of the course is approximately $1,250 for all students. There is no difference in cost for non-New Jersey residents.

The course is 3 credits and can contribute towards either a Bachelors of Science in GIS or a Bachelors of Arts in Geography from Rowan.
